It Doesn’t Matter

This is the Truth:

It doesn’t matter if you were Homecoming Queen or King when you were 16. I’m more interested if you ever had the audacity to rule your own kingdom while on Earth.

It doesn’t matter if you speak 4 different languages and have traveled to 25 various countries. I’m more interested if you have ever allowed your heart to travel where it wants to go, to speak the heart language of our brethren.

It doesn’t matter if you built several start-ups and successfully sold them. I’m more interested if you’ve ever dared to start that outlandish dream of yours, before it was too late.

It doesn’t matter if you were a champion wrestler in university and a professional bodybuilder afterwards. I’m more interested if you built your legacy that will last long after your body has faded.

It doesn’t matter if you own a two-car garage home in the suburbs and a modest condo in the Dominican Republic. I’m more interested in the intangible property that bore your name: your brazen ideas, your visions, your life work, your legacy.

It doesn’t matter if you biked all across Asia after you hitchhiked your way through Europe. I’m more interested in seeing the indestructible trail you’ve left behind as an epic, freethinking radical that dared to do the impossible.

It doesn’t matter if you paid your taxes on time each year and was a noble citizen with a good, clean record. I’m more interested in your citizenship of the world, whether the taxes you’ve paid led you to greater heights, bigger risks, and even bigger rewards.

It doesn’t matter if you ditched your job, car, apartment and girlfriend in order to experience your quarter-life crisis. I’m more interested whether or not you would still choose to embrace your life crises even after you’ve felt comfortable with where you’re at.

It doesn’t matter if you were a profound thought leader of your generation, as quotable as Steve Jobs. I’m more interested whether or not you were a thought doer, a bold visionary that took action, believing that safe decisions were actually more dangerous.

It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, after a failed marriage, career, body, mind and spirit. I’m more interested whether or not you got back up in order to keep on living, to keep on thriving.

It doesn’t matter how much you give to charity and your church. I’m more interested whether you gave your heart to our global family, regardless of charity affiliation and faith.

It doesn’t matter if you were a squeaky clean, polite and humble person that your parents were proud to raise. I’m more interested whether or not you would endure accusations of selfishness and disrespect if you spoke what was on your heart instead.

It doesn’t matter if you took the most beautiful National Geographic-esque photographs and displayed them in art shows state-wide. I’m more interested whether or not those photographs made a memorable impact upon its viewers and left them considering something they’ve not thought of before.

It doesn’t matter if you vote Democratic or Republican. I’m more interested if you’re Humanitarian.

It doesn’t matter if you served in the military for your country. I’m more interested if you served yourself the same amount of time, sweat, blood and tears that you dedicated for your nation.

It doesn’t matter if you speak in front of 3,000 people as part of your booming business campaign. I’m more interested if you’re a speaker of your own heart endeavors with an audience of one.

It doesn’t matter if you made sound and safe decisions all your life. I’m more interested whether or not you made those scary decisions that had the potential to end you, but in doing so, actually empowered you.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve made multiple exits during your time. I’m more interested whether you saw each exit as not the end, but the beginning of something greater.

It doesn’t matter if you got into fist fights over something silly when you were young and wild. I’m more interested if you would still get into a fist fight today over something that’s worth fighting for.

It doesn’t matter if you topped a few best-seller lists as a popular author during your heyday. I’m more interested whether or not you ever sacrificed your popularity in order to speak the Truth.
