Let’s Play a Game
Let’s play a game.
You have a one-way ticket to Tibet (or, one of your top destinations in the world), fully paid for and with your name on it. You have enough money to enjoy a short-term or long-term stay there. Your flight leaves 10:45pm tomorrow and you need to leave by 8pm in order to make it on time to the airport.
Which means, you have until 8pm to pack one bag (your partner(s) and pet(s) come with you by means of fairy magic), clear all your shit away from your home, and close off any remaining bills / accounts.
To make things a bit financially feasible, let’s just say you started closing off these open bills / accounts a week ago as well as informed your landlord about the immediate vacancy. All gigs have been honored, all open expenses closed, all commitments either met or canceled. There simply is no time for extraneous matters and engagements at this point.
One bag. Because more than one bag and you’ll need to pay hefty international baggage prices as well as the additional headache of managing cumbersome luggage.
2 questions:
- What are the things you deem as absolutely essential in your current life that you would want to fit in this one bag? Please list these essential things. (ex. favorite shirt, laptop, passport, etc.)
- What are the things you can leave behind? Please list these things by means of category. (ex. old notebooks, cookware, furniture, etc.)
Note: It is okay to want to bring more with you, but the end matter is, what can you live with and what can you live without without inducing negative and destructive self-depravation?
Look about your home and your belongings, open your text editor or your notebook and please answer these above 2 questions thoroughly.
The answers may surprise you. At the very least, this will be an honest look and evaluation of what you currently deem as necessary and essential in your life. These answers will undoubtedly vary in accordance with the current stage in our lives.
